Harmanpreet Kaur played the innings of her life, hammering an unbeaten 171 to take India into the World Cup final.

Back home in Moga, Punjab, Harmanpreet’s family members, relatives and friends said that the 29-year-old all-rounder has made them proud by taking India a step closer to the title.

Harmanpreet’s father Harmindar Singh Bhullar, who inspired her to take up cricket, said that it was a proud moment for the family. But, he added that the real celebrations will begin when Harmanpreet steers India to the World Cup title. Winning the coveted trophy has been a dream of Harmanpreet, Bhullar said.

Harmanpreet, who started her career as a medium-pacer in Moga, switched to batting under coach Yadavinder Singh Sodhi. Seeing her play with the boys at Gian Jyoti School at Darapur village in Moga district, the school principal started a girl’s cricket team.

Harmanpreet, who said her inspiration was Virender Sehwag, became the first woman to be signed by Sydney Thunder in the T20 Women’s Big Bash League in Australia.
