Emergency Work for University Women.

A STATEMENT published in a Calcutta paper shows that in connection with compulsory military service for Europeans in India, efforts are being made to register the names of women, both British and Indian, who possess British University qualifications, for emergency service. In England, it is pointed out, the places of the men have been largely filled by retired partners and assistants and educated women. But in India their number is very small, and a registration of women of all races fit for emergency work is being prepared. In 1914 enquiries were made both in Calcutta and Bombay with the result that 32 women, married and single, were registered. Since then, it appears, sub-committees were appointed to make enquiries as regards women who are available for emergency service and also service which they can be entrusted with.
