Import of Motor Cars to India

THOUGH the imports of motor cars and similar luxurious means of conveyance are most welcome in the piping times of peace, one cannot but deprecate such expenditure in war times. People will be inspired to learn from the latest trade statistics that total receipts during the eleven months ending with February, including import of cycles, wagons, parts and accessories, are returned at Rs. 1,97,49,000 which compares with Rs. 1,15,64,000 in the previous period, and Rs. 91,98,000 in the eleven months of 1914-15. Making allowance for military requirements the figures still seem to indicate that wealth officials, merchants, professional men and others are not much affected by the war, and they are not comfortable if they forego the use of the cars.
