COMPARING the Defence of India Act with the Defence of the Realm Act in England, and referring to Regulation 14 of the latter, the Englishman writes:-"If this provision were applied as stands to India the British Major at Fort William or whoever may be the competent military authority would have power to turn anyone he likes out of Calcutta and domicile him wherever he chooses and the suspect could only appeal to the Commander in Chief." Yet we have hitherto believed that England is the freest country in the world, and India is just a subject country, and are perverse enough to believe this even now.
