When Peace Comes

The manner in which the Allies have been carrying out their plan of offensive and defeating the enemy, brings us nearer the day when peace will have to be established. Mr. Lloyd George recently declared that when victory comes the British will make such demands as would be proportionate to the sacrifices made by them. He also said victory must let them have done with war forever. There must be no more wars afterwards because of the consequences. Objection is raised to this sentiment by critics who think the idealist who desires to put an end to wars should not enforce his objects at present. A Calcutta contemporary remarks: “It is only the visionary that sees in the present war the end of all international conflicts, and there is a real danger that the visionary in the Peace Council will press upon the Allies some fantastic agreement.”
