‘Inform minorities about schemes’

Muktsar: Manjit Singh Rai (pic), member, National Commission for Minorities (NCM), on Monday held a meeting with officials of the district administration here and urged them to ensure that maximum people avail the benefits of schemes launched by the Central Government. He further asked the authorities to put up some boards about the schemes available for minorities, like scholarship being given to the students. Rai asked the police officers present in the meeting to keep a check on rumours related to minorities being spread on social media. He also held a meeting with representatives of the minority communities in the town. TNS

School bags distributed

Bathinda: As a part of its CSR activity, city-based AYE Finance Private Limited distributed school bags, water bottles and food items among slum children studying at a centre run by Appu Society, a city-based NGO, on Monday. Executive members of the firm celebrated its sixth foundation day with children of Appu Vidyalaya-4. Ranjit Singh, Sukhdev Kumar, Balvinder Singh, Vikram, Sunil Kumar and Deepak from the firm cut a cake to celebrate the day. TNS

Man booked for land fraud

Muktsar: The police have booked a resident of Muktsar town for allegedly committing a land fraud amounting to Rs1.2 lakh with a resident of Lakhewali village. Complainant Anil Kumar told the police that Sukhdev Singh had taken Rs1.2 lakh from him in 2017, after finalising a deal of 2.5 acres in Ratta Thehar village, however, he neither transferred the land nor returned the money. A case has been registered. TNS

Badal college girls excel

Muktsar: Students of Dasmesh Girls College, Badal, have brought laurels to the institute by winning first position in the North Zone Inter-University Youth Festival held recently at Guru Nanak Dev University in Amritsar. Principal of Dasmesh Girls College, Badal, SS Sangha said a total of 37 universities had participated in the festival. “Now, our students will represent the north zone in the All-India Youth Festival to be held from February 2 to 7 at Amity University in New Delhi.” TNS

One booked for Rs 5.75 lakh fraud

Muktsar: The police have booked Balour Singh, a resident of ward No. 12 in Malout, for allegedly committing a fraud of Rs5.75 lakh with Manohar Lal of Muktsar by promising to get equipment of his floor mill sold. The police have registered a case. No arrests have been made. TNS
