CEO flags off ‘voter rath’ at Plaza in Sector 17

CHANDIGARH:The Election Department organised a voter awareness event as a part of Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation Programme (SVEEP) at the Sector 17 Plaza here today.

Chandigarh, April 20

The Election Department organised a voter awareness event as a part of Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation Programme (SVEEP) at the Sector 17 Plaza here today. 

The Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of the Chandigarh parliamentary constituency, Ajoy Kumar Sinha, was the chief guest on the occasion.

A ‘voter rath’ was flagged off by the CEO during the event. The ‘rath’ will move around the city till May 19 to generate awareness among the public and motivate them to participate in the elections by exercising their votes.

The Election Department has intensified awareness programmes to engage residents through interesting activities.

A huge canvas was placed at the Sector 17 Plaza on which people from all walks of life left encouraging messages for fellow voters. 

The signature campaign was an attempt to allow people to leave strong message for the first time voters to come forward and understand their duty as responsible citizens of the largest democracy.

An extensive mock programme was also organised at the Sector 17 Plaza wherein officials gave training to people on electronic voting machine (EVM) and voter verifiable paper audit trail (VVPAT). 

A photo booth was also installed to attract youngsters to come and take selfies with their peers and family members.

Various cultural events including nukkad natak on the theme “Vote bhi hai ek zimmedari” by the Song and Drama Division and a musical evening by Rudraksh band attracted huge crowd during the programme.

Adding life to the event, Jahan Geet Singh, India’s youngest and only woman dhol player, left everyone awestruck with her vibrant energy and  performance.
