With a sharp decline in Covid-19 cases, shops will now be allowed to open till 9 pm in the city.

After a detailed discussion on the prevailing Covid situation at a meeting, which was presided over by UT Administrator VP Singh Badnore, it was decided to keep all relaxations intact with the change that all shops will be allowed to open till 9 pm. Earlier, the permitted time was 8 pm. The shopkeepers will, however, ensure that Covid-appropriate behaviour is adhered to.

During the meeting, Dr Jagat Ram, Director, PGI, said elective surgeries had been started and the institute was performing around 100 surgeries daily and currently, 1,500 patients were admitted to the PGI. He said the number of mucormycosis patients being received at the hospital had now come down to eight per day on an average and the fatality among such cases had also come down to 12 per cent. He said the sero survey for paediatric cases had been started.

The Administrator appealed to the residents of Chandigarh to cooperate fully with the PGI in giving samples for the sero survey.

The PGI Director told the Administrator that civil works for installing a 2,000 litre per minute (LPM) oxygen plant had been completed and it would be made functional soon.

Dr Jasbinder Kaur, Director-Principal, GMCH, Sector 32, said surgeries had also started at the GMCH and physical OPDs through online appointments would also be started next week.

Dr Amandeep Kang, Director, Health Services, said 11,270 samples were tested in the city during the past one week and the positivity rate was 1.4 per cent. She mentioned that the overall recovery rate was 98.4 per cent.

Meanwhile, the Administrator directed the Director General of Police that strict action should be taken against the violators of the Covid protocol, particularly those not wearing a mask, at Sukhna Lake and public places.


Evening vaccination from today

  • The UT Health Department has decided to start evening vaccination centres in the city from Wednesday.
  • Dr Amandeep Kang, Director, Health Services, said they would start evening vaccination centres in all civil hospitals and the Government Multi-Specialty Hospital, Sector 16, from 5 pm to 9 pm (except Sunday) from June 30 to facilitate vaccination of serving residents.
