The CEO, Chandigarh Smart City Ltd, Anindita Mitra, received the best UT award for Chandigarh in the India Smart Cities Award Contest (ISAC), 2020, from Hardeep Singh Puri, Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs, at a function in Surat today.
The best UT award was given on the basis of its performance in the “India Cycles4Change Challenge, Climate Smart Cities Challenge, Streets4People Challenge, TULIP and Data Smart Cities”. The ISAC was organised under the Smart Cities Mission, Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Government of India, for the August 25-February 24 period.
It was one of the important activities initiated under the mission, where pioneering city strategies, projects and ideas have been recognised based on innovation, impact and replicability/scalability.
The ISAC recognises and rewards cities for projects and innovative ideas promoting sustainable development in urban areas.
The categories were “project awards, city leadership award, best state/UT award, innovation award, Covid innovation award and city award”. Chandigarh participated in the competition and won the award in the culture category for its Capitol Complex project, which had been declared a heritage site by UNESCO.
‘Superhero Award’
Rupesh Kumar, Additional Commissioner, MC, was awarded the “Superhero Award” in the “City Leaders” category of the Freedom2Walk and Cycle event under the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav celebrations. —
