Civic body not releasing park maintenance dues: Chandigarh RWAs

Chandigarh, August 7

Residents’ welfare associations (RWAs) today took up several civic issues with Anandita Mitra, Municipal Commissioner, and NP Sharma, MC Chief Engineer, during a meeting of the executive under the Chandigarh Residents’ Associations Welfare Federation (CRAWFED) at Community Centre, Sector 43.

The RWAs maintaining the neighbourhood parks complained the corporation was not releasing dues on time. They also requested the MC to axe or properly prune very old trees. “Material being used in road re-carpeting is of substandard quality. These recarpeted roads hardly last for a few months. We request you to involve the respective RWAs to ensure a proper recarpeting of roads,” said Hitesh Puri, chairman, CRAWFED. The RWAs also raised the issue of residents, who bought property after 2017, being issued notices for not informing the MC authorities about the sale deed in time. DP Singh and Joginder Singh of Sector 38 said vendors should be shifted away from the main road. Vineet Chauhan said parks in Sector 61 were low-lying areas and water gets accumulated there in the rain season.

Tarsem Sharma of Sector 40 raised the issue of precariously hanging cable wires. Dr Anish Garg, general secretary, CRAWFED, raised the demand for land to rehabilitate stray animals.

Rajat Malhotra raised the issue of removal of a garbage dump from Sector 45.

Puri suggested a committee of prominent members of RWAs be formed which would discuss issues related to Chandigarh before those were taken up at a MC House meeting to ensure transparency and good results.

The Commissioner assured the office-bearers that all issues put forth at the meeting would be resolved on priority. She appreciated the suggestion for setting up a “Pashu-shala” for injured and ill animals, and promised that she would to put up the proposal before House. Anandita appealed to the members of the RWAs to hoist the national flag at their respective places from August 13 to 15. — TNS
