Man booked on rape charge

Chandigarh: A Haryana resident has been booked by the local police for allegedly raping a 22-year-old girl. According to the police, the victim, who also hails from Haryana, has alleged that the suspect befriended her. He later developed physical relations with her on the pretext of marriage. However, later he refused to get married following which the victim approached the police. The police have registered a case against him at the Sector 36 police station. TNS

Purse snatched in Sector 46

Chandigarh: A motorcycle-borne miscreant snatched a purse from a girl in Sector 46. According to the police, the complainant, a native of Gujarat who is pursuing a private course in the city, reported that the miscreant riding a motorcycle snatched her purse containing Rs10,000, a gold ring, an ATM card and documents on February 19. The police were informed, who visited the spot. A case has been registered at the Sector 34 police station. TNS

Pedestrian killed, 2 bikers hurt in mishaps

Ambala: A pedestrian was crushed to death in a hit-and-run while two bikers sustained serious injuries in a separate road accident in Ambala district during the past 24 hours, the police said here today. According to official information, Jeet Singh was killed after a rashly driven unknown vehicle hit him at Kala Amb in Naraingarh and sped away. In a separate mishap, Sohan Lal and his friend Mohit of Saha were seriously injured after a speeding car hit their motorcycle near Mithapur village. Separate cases were registered against vehicle drivers and further investigation was launched, the police added. TNS

Man held for murder bid

Ambala: The district police have arrested Sanjeev Kumar, alias Tota, of Ambala City in a case of attempt to murder, officials said here today. According to information, Naresh Kumar of Ambala City had reported to the local police on February 17 that the suspect along with his accomplices had attacked his cousin brother Mithun with a sharp weapon and threatened him with dire consequences near Congress Bhawan. Two other suspects in the case had already been arrested. Tota would be produced before a local court tomorrow, officials added. TNS

Married woman goes missing

Ambala: A 27-year-old married woman had reportedly gone missing from her home, the police said here today. According to official information, Sandeep of Baldev Nagar had reported to the local police that his wife had left home on February 16, but did not return. The police have lodged a missing person’s report and launched a manhunt to trace the missing woman, officials added. TNS

Man held for abducting girl

Ambala: The district police have arrested Jaspreet Singh for abducting a minor girl after luring her for marriage, officials said here today. The suspect had kidnapped a minor girl of Baldev Nagar after luring her for marriage on February 17. He was arrested and presented before a local court, which remanded him to 14-day judicial custody. 2 LPG cylinders, mobile stolen

Chandigarh: A theft was reported at the Indian Air Force personnel’s house in Sector 47, Chandigarh. According to the police, Pawan Kumar complained that someone has stolen two LPG cylinders and a mobile phone from his house on February 17. The complainant, after reaching home from work, found locks of the main door broken. TNS

Woman loses gold bangles on bus

Chandigarh: A 60-year-old woman lost her gold bangles while travelling on a local bus on Wednesday. The victim, Rama Devi, a resident of Sector 40, Chandigarh, had boarded a bus for the ISBT-43 from Sector 40. On reaching the ISBT-43, Devi found that the gold bangles she was wearing were missing. The police said someone managed to cut the gold bangles. The police have registered a case at Sector 36 police station. TNS

Ban on carrying of firearms

Mohali: The Deputy Commissioner, Girish Dayalan, banned carrying of firearms in marriage palaces on February 20. He directed marriage palace owners to inform the police in case anybody brings weapons during celebratory events. The Deputy Commissioner also banned meat shops within 1,000 metres of the Air Force Station (falling within the limits of the Mohali district) and throwing residue within this specific area has also been banned. He also banned rallies and dharnas at the District Administrative Complex, Sector - 76, Mohali. Now, nobody can hold a protest within 100 metres of the complex. In case, a memorandum needs to be submitted, at most five persons would be allowed to enter the Deputy Commissioner office. TNS
