Man pays Rs 7.5L for ‘0001’, it’s a gift for his son

CHANDIGARH:To present a ‘unique’ birthday gift to his son, a businessman bought a vanity number ‘0001’ for Rs 7,51,000 for his Mercedes car during an e-auction conducted by the Registering and Licensing Authority (RLA) here today.

To present a ‘unique’ birthday gift to his son, a businessman bought a vanity number ‘0001’ for Rs 7,51,000 for his Mercedes car during an e-auction conducted by the Registering and Licensing Authority (RLA) here today. 

The reserve price for the number, CH 01 BX 0001, was Rs 50,000.

“The online auction was a good experience. I did not face any issue. This is a gift for my son, who is fond of fancy numbers. His birthday is just ten days away,” says Rajiv Gupta, the owner of Akash Furnishing Pvt Ltd in Sector 40 here. The next highest bid went for the registration number, CH 01 BX 0031. Bikramajit Singh Sandhu paid Rs 2.16 lakh for this vanity number. The RLA had fixed Rs 20,000 as the reserve price for the number.

In the same series, the number ‘0010’ was bought by Gagan Deep Arora for Rs 1.20 lakh and ‘0005’ was purchased by Gurinder Singh Cheema for Rs 1.14 lakh. The numbers ‘0011’ and ‘0003’ were sold for Rs 1.11 lakh and Rs 11 lakh, respectively. A total of 191 bidders had participated in the auction of the new series of registration numbers.
