The court of Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate, Chandigarh, TPS Randhawa, imposed a fine of Rs16,000 on a resident of Nayagaon, who was caught driving a vehicle under the influence of liquor and without a valid licence.

As per the prosecution, the accused, Shiv Kumar, was found driving a vehicle in a manner dangerous to the public, and in contravention of the traffic rules. The incident took place on December 5 at 00:40 am at the Transport Area light point. The accused was also found under the influence of liquor.

A case was registered against him under Sections 181, 184 and 185 of the Motor Vehicles (MV) Act at the Sector 26 police station and he was arrested.

A notice of accusation was served upon the accused, to which he pleaded guilty and did not claim trial.

Holding him guilty, the Additional CJM ordered him to pay a fine of Rs5,000 under Section 181, Rs1,000 under Section 184 and Rs10,000 under Section 185 of the MV Act. In case the fine was not paid, the convict would have to undergo simple imprisonment for one month, the order read.
