In a midnight swoop to check the sale of spurious sale of paneer and milk, teams of the food safety and dairy development, accompanied with Patiala police, raided two dairies located in villages Sangatpur Bhonki and Khokh in the sub division.
The raid was started at midnight and continued till 4 am. The teams seized the stock suspected to be spurious from Basant milk collection centre at village Sangatpura Bhonki and Deep Dairy at village Khokh.
The raiding teams were led by District Health Officer, Dr Krishan Singh, Patiala Food Safety Officer, Puneet Sharma and Dr Ashok Rauni of the Diary Development Department. The teams were assisted by the members of progressive diary farmers association as well. About 80 kg of paneer, 800 liters of milk, 25 kg of skimmed milk powder were seized from Sangatpura Bhonki village, and 1,200 kg of paneer, 800 liters of milk, 130 kg cream and a box of caustic soda were seized from Khokh village.
The department has sent samples for inspection, while foul smell was emanating from the milk obtained at Deep Diary at Khokh village.
Puneet Sharma said, the samples have been sent for testing. The punishment will be decided once adulteration is found in the samples which we have collected. The products seemed of sub-standard quality and the material has been seized, he added.
Patiala Deputy Commissioner Kumar Amit said a special task force under SSP Mandeep Singh Sidhu and Civil surgeon Dr Manjit Singh has been formed to check food adulteration.
