PU Vice-Chancellor Prof Raj Kumar has warned the chairpersons of all departments against skipping meetings and asked them to send their representatives if they cannot come. He said serious view would be taken in case the directions were not followed.

The minutes of a meeting with chairpersons, held on November 15 and November 16, say, "The Vice-Chancellor (VC) advised the chairpersons to leave the station only with prior permission of the appropriate authorities and after making substitute arrangements." The VC said the chairpersons should ensure to attend the meetings where they were a member. In case, they were unable to attend the meeting, they should depute their representatives, otherwise serious view would be taken.

The VC also took exception of some chairpersons delaying the Career Advancement Scheme (CAS) promotions of their colleagues. He said some chairpersons were not recommending CAS applications of faculty members of their respective departments, resulting in delaying the process of CAS promotions.

"He advised the chairpersons to promptly forward the CAS applications for scrutiny, otherwise such applications shall be considered directly without the recommendation of the chairperson," according to the minutes of meeting.

He informed the chairpersons and administrative officers to dispose of the files on a daily basis and to ensure that every note or file bear appropriate date. "He said while recommending the case, relevant rules/regulations from the PU calendar pertaining to the approval of the case should be clearly mentioned to facilitate the authorities to approve the case."

Keep students away from strikes, dons urged

The VC told the chairpersons to counsel the students from time to time so that they channelise energy in the positive direction for their overall development. He also advised them to keep the students away from unnecessary strikes and any unlawful activity. He asked them to display cordial behaviour with the staff and students and to avoid any untoward incidents.

Meanwhile, the protest for the 24x7 entry to girls' hostels entered the 42nd day on Sunday. "Our strike will continue till our demands are met," said PUCSC chief Kanupriya.

Raises concern over delayed payments

Expressing concern over the issue of delayed payments of TA/DA to outside experts, the VC advised to clear the case, including obtaining permission regarding travelling by Air India etc, well in advance so that payments could be made in time. It was the sole responsibility of the supervisor and the chairperson to coordinate with the FDO and CoE in this regard, he said. He also informed that the provision to introduce a separate budget head, ‘Crisis Fund’, was being explored for the purpose.
