Visit Dadu Majra dump: Chandigarh Youth Congress to Home Minister

Tribune News Service

Chandigarh, July 29

The Chandigarh Youth Congress led by state president Manoj Lubana urged Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who will be in the city tomorrow, to visit the Dadu Majra garbage dumping ground.

Lubana said the site was a “dubious” gift given to the people of the city by the BJP-led Municipal Corporation.

They held up flexes at the dumping site, reading “Chandigarh Youth Congress team welcomes Amit Shah to Dadu Majra Dumping Site”, to highlight the issue.

Lubana said area residents had been suffering from serious ailments, especially lung-related diseases, due to the dump in their vicinity. They were forced to spend huge amounts on their treatment, he said. They urged the minister to provide free treatment and grant adequate compensation to those sufferings from diseases caused by the dumping site.
