Patiala: Yadavindra Public School (YPS) has joined hands with Institute of Management Technology, Dubai, for providing better opportunities to students in future. A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed by both institutes in this regard. “An exchange programme with foreign schools is tradition of our school for the past many years. We have achieved a new benchmark in the field of education. Every year, 10 students of our school interested in pursuing their career in BBA (Bachelor in Business Administration) will be given an opportunity to take admission in the IMT, Dubai. They will also get scholarship for the course,” said the YPS director, Maj Gen Sanjiv Varma (retd). — TNS

Night out with Tagorians

Patiala: Students of Tagore House of British Co- Ed School enthralled the audience with their acting, dancing and singing skills at Harpal Tiwana Auditorium here on Saturday. A Punjabi play, ‘Sade samaj de weham tey bharam’ explored society's belief in superstitions and ‘God men’. A Hindi comedy play, ‘Badlav zaroori hai’ highlighting illiteracy in India was also staged on the occasion. An English play, ‘Beauty and the beast’ gave the meaningful message of being kind and not arrogant. Punjabi folk dance ‘Jindwa’ brought the evening to a thunderous end as dancers put their best foot forward to the beat of the dhol. — TNS

Buddy programme launched 

Patiala: Buddy programme was launched at Government Mohindra College, Patiala, here on Sunday to create awareness against the use of drugs among students. The drive aims to create cohesive buddy teams and protect each other from drugs. While launching the programme, college Principal, Dr Sangeeta Handa, elaborated on the objective and action plan of Buddy system. She said, “It’s the need of the hour that drug menace in the state is nipped in the bud.” College nodal officer of the buddy programme, Dr Swinder Singh Rekhi, highlighted the steps to strengthen and empower peer buddy groups so that they could play a vital role in protection and prevention of drug addiction. The master trainers of the buddy programme, Dr Gurpreet Kaur Sandhu, Prof Shilpa Modi, Prof Iqra Farooqui and Prof Kuldeep Singh conducted the training sessions, enacted demonstrative role plays and interacted with students and faculty regarding the formation of buddy groups. — TNS 

Stolen bikes recovered

Chandigarh: The arrest of a 19-year-old youth has led to the recovery of two more stolen motorcycles. The accused was arrested by the Chandigarh Police on August 23 while riding a stolen motorcycle from Panchkula. He was on two-day police remand that led to the recovery of two more stolen motorcycles. TNS

Man held with knife

Chandigarh: The UT police have arrested a man while possessing a knife. The PCR staff had nabbed the accused on August 25 while he was roaming in the area of Mani Majra. The accused, identified as Gautam (19), a resident of Mari Wala Town, Mani Majra, was stopped by cops on suspicion. The police have registered a case against the accused under the Arms Act at Mani Majra police station. TNS

Biker killed in mishap

Kharar: Harpreet Singh, a resident of Badali Alla Singh village, who was working in a Ropar court, was killed after his bike was knocked down by an unidentified vehicle on  Sunday. The Kharar Sadar police have registered a case under Section 427, 279 and 304 A of the IPC in the matter. Harpreet died on the spot. His body was handed over to his kin after a postmortem at the Civil Hospital, Kharar. oc
