Inmate escapes from hospital

AMRITSAR: A prisoner escaped from TB Hospital here on Sunday. Besides him. the police have booked three cops for dereliction of duty. The prisoner, identified as Charanjit Singh Chani of Nakodar, Jalandhar, was brought to the hospital from Kapurthala Central Jail.

A prisoner escaped from TB Hospital here on Sunday. Besides him. the police have booked three cops for dereliction of duty. The prisoner, identified as Charanjit Singh Chani of Nakodar, Jalandhar, was brought to the hospital from Kapurthala Central Jail.

Sardara Singh, Assistant Superintendent, Kapurthala Central Jail, said Charanjit was admitted to the TB Hospital after he was referred by the medical officer of the jail as his condition deteriorated. He said Head Warden Jarnail Singh, wardens Balkar Singh and Amarjit Singh were deputed at the hospital to guard him.

On Sunday, the accused slipped away from the hospital due to “negligence” on the part of the cops, he said.

The Majitha road police have registered a case under Sections 223 and 224 of the IPC against the accused.

On Saturday, another jail inmate had escaped from the courts complex after dodging the police team. Major Singh of Pandori Waraich village was held for bootlegging. He was brought in the court complex for hearing.
