Records of pharmaceutical company being scrutinised

AMRITSAR: Two days after the seizure of 10.5 kg of narcotic powder from three persons, including a woman, the Special Task Force (STF), along with a team of health officials and excise and sale tax sleuths, scrutinised records of a noted pharmaceutical company.

Two days after the seizure of 10.5 kg of narcotic powder from three persons, including a woman, the Special Task Force (STF), along with a team of health officials and excise and sale tax sleuths, scrutinised records of a noted pharmaceutical company. They also took assistants of the accountants for checking the records.

Officials of the STF and drug wing had raided the godowns of the pharmaceutical firm on Wednesday evening. On Thursday, they visited two godowns located at the Majitha road and near Government Dental College, it has been learnt.

The owner of the firm gave records to the raiding parties which is being scrutinised, said an official, requesting anonymity, who was part of the raiding team.

The police landed on the premises of the pharmaceutical firm following the arrest of a woman, Balwinder Kaur, and her son Jagdish Singh of Bal Sachander village. The STF team had also nabbed a quack, Prem Nath, of Sharifpura after their arrest.

The police had seized 10.5 kg of narcotic powder and 260 intoxicating tablets from them.

Rashpal Singh Ghuman, AIG, STF, had revealed that Prem Nath, a quack, used to prepare a mixture of different medicinal drugs including banned Tramadol and painkillers that is given to animals and that too of expiry dates. This they used to sell in rural belts to the people by branding it as medicines for relieving pain and other minor ailments.

Ghuman said Prem Nath used to prepare a set and sold the same for Rs 10,500 to Balwinder and her son. They later sold it in retail to the people.
