Amritsar, July 12

A local trader was fired at by unknown persons when he was returning home from his shop. Though the incident occurred on Monday, a complaint was lodged with the police on Wednesday.

The victim, Sunny Arora, of Patel Nagar in Jandiala Guru stated in his police complaint that he had been receiving ransom calls from an anonymous caller. “The caller introduced himself as Jaggu Bhagwanpuria and demanded Rs 10 lakh as extortion. He threatened me of dire consequences in case I failed to fulfil his demand,” he said.

According to Sunny Arora, he was returning home from his poultry shop in Rayya. He said when he reached near Fattuwal village, he heard gunshots. Spotting a bike chasing his car, he sped away. After reaching his house, he saw tyres pierced with bullets.

Amritsar (Rural) SSP Parampal Singh said the police were investigating the case. He said a case was registered in this connection.
