“Notorious criminal” Amandeep Singh, alias Sunny, was found dead under mysterious circumstances in New Gurnam Nagar here on Tuesday. He was wanted in around 18 cases of robbery and clash by the police.

His body was found wrapped in a bed sheet in a vacant plot in New Gurnam Nagar. Passersby informed the police after coming across the body, which had no injury mark.

According to the police, he appears to have died of drug abuse. The exact cause of his death would be ascertained only after the receipt of postmortem examination report.

Sukhbir Singh, SHO, Division B police station, said the police had registered a case of murder on the statement of deceased’s father Baljit Singh, a resident of Maqboolpura.

“A case under Section 302 of the IPC has been registered against Ballu and Kala of the same locality,” said Sukhbir. In his statement, Baljit suspected the two behind his “murder”.

Woman alleges rape

A married woman has accused a quack of allegedly raping her. The incident occurred in the intervening night of October 6 and 7 and the complaint was lodged with the Bhindi Saida police on Monday.

The accused has been identified as Nirmal Singh of Jasraur village. He is said to be absconding.

The 40-year-old victim stated to the police that the accused had a clinic in the village and she occasionally saw him for taking medicines. She alleged that he also visited her house sometimes.

According to her, she was at her home when Nirmal turned up at around 2 am on October 6. He allegedly covered her mouth, making it impossible for her to raise the alarm. After raping her, he “threatened to get her family members killed” in case she told anyone about it.

Balwinder Kaur, investigating officer, said that a probe had been launched after the medical examination of the victim. A case under Sections 376 and 506 of the IPC has been registered.
