The Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC) of the Central University of Punjab (CUP) celebrated ‘Innovation Day’. Poster-making and slogan-writing competitions were organised on the theme, ‘Innovation and You’, on the occasion.

A total of 47 students participated in the competitions. Dean Student Welfare Prof VK Garg was the chief guest. Garg said the day was celebrated to mark the birth anniversary of the former President of India, Dr APJ Abdul Kalam. He said the vision of the CUP was to create new knowledge. Within a span of ten years, the university had registered maximum research output in comparison to other newly-established central universities, he said.

He appreciated the creativity exhibited by participants and inspired everyone to implement their innovative ideas by citing examples of successful start-ups. Professor SK Bawa, president of innovation council of the varsity, said: “Innovation has been the goal and mission of the CUP and our faculty and students are committed to formulating innovative solutions to various problems.” The IIC would continue to host activities in future to ignite the spirit of innovation among students, she added.

In poster making, Riya and Pallavi bagged first position, Sukhchain and Priyanka got second position and Ashmita and Khushi stood at third. Own Ali, Ketan Pajni and Krishna Vemuru bagged first, second and third position, respectively, in slogan-writing contest.
