Finance Minister Manpreet Singh Badal today distributed cheques for development and welfare works in the city.

While addressing a public meeting at Beant Nagar, Manpreet said the Modi-led BJP government had hit the economy of the country hard by wrongly implementing demonetisation and the GST. He said due to wrong polices of the BJP government, the country’s economy was going down and due to this unemployment was increasing and inflation was affecting the common man.

Manpreet said the Centre was not giving the GST share of the state and wrong polices of the BJP government were also impacting Punjab, but despite this the Congress-led state government was trying to improve the state's economy.

He said the development works were going on in the city and these would continue in the coming days as well.

He claimed that first they had issued a grant of crores for the betterment of schools in the city and now their focus was to provide basic amenities to city residents. He also distributed cheques worth Rs 12.50 crore for the development works in the city.

The minister held a meeting with the Police Pensioners’ Welfare Association and gave them a cheque for Rs 5 lakh for the construction of a meeting hall of the association. He also gave away Rs 2.50 lakh cheque to the Guru Sewa Welfare Society for the welfare works, Rs 2 lakh to Satguru Kabir Manav Sewa Samiti for the renovation of Satguru Kabir Dharamshala, Rs 3 lakh to Bhai Jagta Ji Jai Maa Durga Charitable Trust for the welfare works.

Later, he also inaugurated a basketball match at the Police Public School ground. He said the state government was making all efforts to promote sports in the state and to motivate youth towards sports, they were organising tournaments and the kabaddi world cup.
