Kharar: A student of Chandigarh University sustained serious injuries when the auto-rickshaw she was travelling in overturned due to an alleged negligence of the driver. In her complaint to the police, Rutvi Kaul, a resident of Darpan Green in Kharar, stated that she was going to the university from her residence in an auto. Since the auto was being driven very fast, she asked the driver to slow it down but he did not agree. The vehicle hit the median and overturned. The seriously injured girl was taken to the Civil Hospital, Kharar, from where she was referred to the PGI, Chandigarh. The Kharar City police have registered a case under Section 337, 338 and 279 of the IPC against the unidentified driver of the vehicle. oc
Compartment cases can apply
Chandigarh: Those who could not take admission to Class XI at government schools due to compartment in Class X can apply for it in the third counselling, scheduled for August 13 or 14. There are 2,480 seats up for grabs. The Central Board of Secondary Education had recently declared compartment results. They can apply online. Seats will be allotted on August 23. tns
Fatal mishap: Cop transferred
Panchkula: The police on Saturday transferred Head Constable Ranbir Singh to the security wing after he allegedly failed to shift an accident victim to a hospital, owing to jurisdiction issues. Dinesh Kumar (41), a native of Kair village in Shimla, was crossing the road when a truck hit him on the Zirakpur-Panchkula boundary. He received multiple head injuries. The Head Constable came to the accident spot, but allegedly failed to help the victim, costing him his life. TNS
Man arrested with opium
Kharar: The Sunny Enclave police post arrested drug peddler, Jai Narayan, following the recovery of 250 gm of opium from him on Saturday. ASI Avtar Singh, in-charge of the police post, said that the accused belonged to Uttar Pradesh. He tried to flee on seeing a police party on Jhungian Road. A case has been registered against him under the NDPS Act. OC
Woman’s modesty outraged
Kharar: The Kharar City police booked a man, Munish Tank, on the charge of outranging the modesty of a married woman on Friday. The complainant, who works as a stamp vendor in Kharar, alleged that the accused made obscene gestures. When the complainant raised an alarm, the accused ran away. A case under Sections 354, 292, 509 and 506 of the IPC has been registered against Munish. OC
