The Chandigarh Police have booked a Head Constable for allegedly duping a man of Rs 60,000 on the pretext of getting him recruited in the police. According to the police, complainant Dr Jatinder, a resident of Mauli Jagran, alleged that Head Constable Deva Singh, a resident of the Police Lines, Sector 26, had promised to get his brother recruited in the Chandigarh Police.
The complainant paid the money to the accused in 2017. However, the accused failed to get complainant’s brother recruited. “The accused then returned Rs 20,000 cash and provided two cheques for Rs 20,000 each, which bounced,” said a police official.
The victim then approached the police following which a case under Section 420 (cheating) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) was registered.
