Chandigarh, July 10

The narrow lane leading to small houses in Sector 38-C, where dreaded gangster Dilpreet Singh Baba was putting up, was full of onlookers residing in the locality who were shocked to learn that Dilpreet, known as a quiet man, was a gangster. Dilpreet’s woman friend had introduced him as her husband to the neighbours.

A woman not wishing to be named, who stays in the same row, said Rupinder Kaur had introduced Dilpreet Singh as her husband. “They didn’t interact with us much,” she said.

Sita Devi, who stays in the house opposite the gangster’s house, said she never bothered to ask about the woman and Dilpreet. Rupinder’s sister Harpreet Kaur and her two kids also used to stay in the same house.

A youth staying adjacent to Dilpreet’s rented house said Dilpreet usually left late in the evening and never spoke to anyone. “He used to park his car on the roadside on the stretch separating Sector 38 and 37,” he said.

Local residents said Dilpreet used to drive a Swift car with black glasses.

The owner of the house has been identified as Davinder Kaur, a resident of Phase 1, Mohali. Sources said she was at present in Kolkata and the police were waiting for her to return.

Police found wanting

The fact that the gangster was staying in Sector 38 while he was wanted by the UT  Police and other neighboring states has exposed the lackadaisical attitude of the Chandigarh Police, who have failed to get the tenant verification done. The beat staff, who are expected to personally know the people residing in the area, also failed to gather information about the dreaded gangster, having over 30 cases against him, staying in the area.

Nissan Terrano parked near house

A Nissan Terrano vehicle, owned by Rupinder Kaur, which was used by Dilpreet Singh Baba, is still parked on the rear side of the house. A hockey can also been seen lying in the car.
