City BJP president Sanjay Tandon today said he heaved a sigh of relief when it was confirmed that the party candidate, Kirron Kher, was on the winning side for the second time in a row.
“We are now listening to Modi’s speech. During the day, we celebrated by doing bhangra, said Tandon.
He said, “The election was a litmus test for me. If anything would have gone wrong, I would have been blamed. The election also establishes me and my work. For almost a week, there were talks of the Congress winning the Chandigarh Lok Sabha seat. It was a close election with a small margin between the two top contenders in each booth.”
Tandon participated in 229 programmes during the two-month-long election campaign.
These included 12 media interactions, 21 public meetings and roadshows, five rallies, 31 organisational meetings, 15 meetings with different associations, 38 public meetings under the campaign ‘Chai Pe Charcha’ and 18 door-to-door campaigns.
The party also organised rallies addressed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP chief Amit Shah, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, party national secretary Tarun Chugh and Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat.
“This is the first election in years when corruption or price rise were no issues. In the past 20-30 years, all elections were fought on the plank of corruption. People have rejected the dynasty politics, be it the Gandhis or the Chautalas. Parties dominated by families have been rejected in favour of development and the person who works for the downtrodden. This election was Modi versus all and he has emerged victorious. That’s the bottom line of today’s verdict,” said Tandon.
