A scuffle was averted after the police intervened while employees of the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) attempted to shift a transformer at a park, near Arna Barna Chowk, in the city. Powercom officials said they went to a local park to shift transformer in order to make room for children to play, but residents objected as they feared that it might affect electricity supply in their area.
An official from the PSPCL said the power corporation had received a request from the Municipal Corporation (MC) regarding shifting of the transformer from park.
“The Municipal Corporation had requested the PSPCL to shift the transformer and paid Rs 1.55 lakh for the same. People gathered at the park to protest, but calmed down after the intervention of the police,” he added. Officials of the MC also reached the spot.
The Kotwali Station House Officer, Rahul Kaushal, who reached the park, said a there was a minor altercation between officials of the PSPCL and residents of the area due to some miscommunication. “Later, the matter was resolved amicably,” he added.
