The police have booked three members of a Chandigarh-based family on the charge of harassing and physically assaulting their daughter-in law for dowry.

The accused have been identified Jagtar Singh, his brother Balwinder Singh and his wife Jaswinder Kaur, all residents of Sarangpur village near the PGI.

Lakhwinder Kaur, a resident of Sector 21, told the police that she was married to Jagtar Singh on November 21, 2016. She said her parents gave sufficient dowry as demanded by her in-laws. She said her sister-in-law Jaswinder used to demand dowry always. She said Jagtar Singh had two children —Parampreet (16) and Anmol Preet (9) — from his earlier marriage while she had an 8-year-old son. She said her husband refused to accept her son as his own. A case has been registered against the accused under Section 323, 406, 498A, 420, 506 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code. Further investigations were on.
