New Delhi, December 7

With no clue about the whereabouts of a second-year student of Shyama Prasad Mukherjee College days after she was “kidnapped” in the national capital, the All India Students' Association (AISA) today slammed the Delhi Police over the delay claiming the “lackadaisical” attitude of the police leads to such incidents.

Claiming that patrolling around the area is done just during the DU Students' Union election, the AISA unit also accused the college administration of trying to cover up the issue. The college is affiliated to the DU.

A resident of Farrukhnagar, Gurugram, the girl was said to have been kidnapped in broad daylight on Monday just outside the premises of the college located in the Punjabi Bagh area while she was on her way for semester exams. Later, her father was called by someone who identified himself as Harish Yadav asking him not to inform the police.

“The police has failed to trace her till now. This lawlessness around colleges has become very rampant. It is shocking that the college administration is trying to downplay the matter and has shown no urgency in tracing the student,” said a member of AISA. — TNS
