NRI to revamp govt schools of his village

Nawanshahr, October 15

Motivating workshops organised by the Education Secretary at regular intervals to encourage teachers and other officials about community mobilisation and seeking support from influential people and NRIs of the region to revamp government schools have started bearing fruits.

Motivated by teachers of his native Sajawalpur village in Balachaur district, NRI Baljeet Singh Khela, announced to financially aid and revamp all government primary and middle schools of his village during an event organised by local MLA Darshan Lal Mangupur and his alma mater Government Primary School, Sajawalpur, on the school premises last evening.

He said his father as well grandfather had served as government teachers in the village and had been a part of every government event or school functions.

The NRI said though he was living in Australia, his heart lies in his native village and he always had a dream of doing something for the village and wants to give back to the place from where he had learned the values of life.

MLA Darshan Lal while expressing gratitude towards the Khela family said: “The family since long has been aiding schools and contributing towards the development of the village. Baljeet has promised to revamp the government school and provide the latest technology and facilities to the school.”

He said Baljeet wants to give children of his village the same environment and exposure which had been received by students at private schools. Hence, he had assured the school management committee of providing all financial help needed to revamp schools and its buildings.

Taranjeet Singh, Deputy DEO, Nawanshahr, said: “Following the guidelines of the Education Secretary, teachers are engaged in the activity of motivating residents as well NRIs to seek help for the government schools.”

He said: “We are making sure that by the end of the year, we will revamp as many as government schools in the district and provide students with all exposure and facilities.”

He said with schools developing in the state, their results would also improve as students were now enjoying studies and taking interest in the subjects as they were taught with the help of LEDs or smart boards. The deputy DEO said the environment and facilities in the school play a great role in developing the personality of a child.

In the event, Haramrinder Singh Rinku, former chairman, block samiti, Saroya, Kuldip Singh Jassal, Chuhar Singh, former sarpanch, principal Daljit Kumar and head teacher Parmanand of the GPS, Sajawalpur, Satnam Singh, district coordinator, Parho Punjab Parhao Punjab project, Parmod Bharti, member, Zila Shikhiya Sudhar team, Ram Tirath Singh Khela, head teacher, Sarbjit Sabbi, namberdar Surinder Singh, Tarsem Singh, Kulwinder Gora and Balwinder Kumar, Balwant Rai were among those others present.
