Commissioner of Police Praveen Kumar Sinha and Deputy Commissioner Varinder Kumar Sharma on Friday said under the Drug Abuse Prevention Officer (DAPO) programme, the district administration and Police Department would lay thrust on eradicating drugs from the localities worst affected by the curse.

On Friday, they interacted with residents of Qazi Mandi to make it a drug-free locality. They added that these localities, which had earned a bad name due to the presence of drug addicts or suppliers, had been carefully chosen to ensure that these were made drug-free in the first phase.

Both officers said the focus was on to wipe out the curse from the district with the active support and cooperation of people.

They said the basic motive of the mass interaction programme was to ensure that the younger generations were saved from falling prey to the drug menace.

Throwing light on DAPO programme, they reiterated that it was a first-of-its-kind initiative by the state government to check the demand for drugs through mass mobilisation.
