Representatives from the Khan Market Resident Welfare Association (RWA) were also present during the inauguration.
In a social media post, Saxena hailed the occasion as a historic step forward, stating, “Inaugurated two All-Women Police Posts (AWPP) at Shraddhanand Marg and Khan Market today. Equipped with all necessary gadgets and staffed by specially trained women personnel, these AWPPs will address persistent concerns of women, especially in the former location. Following the recognition of the all-women team of Delhi Police as the best marching contingent at the Republic Day Parade 2024, I urged them to establish a few all-women police posts. We are committed to increasing the representation of women in the police force to 33 per cent at the earliest, in line with the vision of Naari Shakti, championed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.”
Police officials emphasised that the inauguration of these all-women police posts signals a new era of inclusivity and efficiency in policing. It represents a progressive step toward gender parity and underscores the commitment of law enforcement authorities to serve and protect all members of the community.
The AWPPs are equipped with the latest gadgets and staffed by trained women police personnel. Khan Market, renowned for its cosmopolitan ambiance, vibrant atmosphere and international allure, attracts a diverse demographic, including foreign visitors. It boasts a plethora of restaurants, shops and residences. With a significant influx of foreign delegates, VVIPs and tourists, the market plays a pivotal role in showcasing the vibrancy of New Delhi, according to the police.
“The establishment of the all-women police post underscores a commitment to gender equality and empowerment within law enforcement, ensuring effective management of duties ranging from crime prevention to community engagement,” said an official.
Sub-Inspector Puja Saini has been appointed as the Inspector-in charge of the Khan Market police post, leading a team of nine subordinate women police officers. Since its establishment in 2016, the Khan Market police post has played a central role in maintaining law and order in this vibrant locale.
Similarly, the AWPP at Shraddhanand Marg has been inaugurated to facilitate women complainants, ensure women police presence and address persistent concerns of women.
During the programme, Saxena engaged briefly with the residents and motivated the women personnel posted there to diligently serve the people, officials noted.
“He was also briefed about the area and crime profile. SI Kiran Sethi has been appointed as the in charge of Shradhanand Marg police post, supported by women staff,” the police added.
