Ludhiana district has once again registered a record number of cases. Today, 415 people tested positive and six lost their lives to the virus. In two days, 850 people have tested positive. Fortyfive patients were on ventilator support.

Those who lost their lives include five women. The deceased belong to Jagraon, Machhiwara, Civil Lines, Ranjit Singh Nagar and New Aakash Nagar.

A 77-year-old man, who succumbed to the virus at Mohan Dai Oswal Hospital, was also suffering from hypertension and diabetes. Two women, aged 72 and 60 years, also had the same co-morbidities.

A 78-year-old woman, who died at GTB Hospital, and a 46-year-old woman, who lost battle against the pandemic at the PGI, were also suffering heart and cerebral conditions.

Of 415 infections reported today, 129 were diagnosed at OPDs and 120 at flu corners. They include eight healthcare workers, two policemen and four pregnant women. Among those who tested positive, 114 are still untraceable.

Deputy Commissioner Varinder Sharma said: “We are passing through the peak and need to be very careful during these days while stepping out. The Administration and the Health Department are working round the clock and people need to help us by taking all necessary precautions,” said the DC.

He said people should not delay and get their test done if they notice any symptom. The test is done free of cost at government hospitals, he added.
