You are the judge of two mainstream reality shows, one about fashion and the other dance. What is the main difference between judging these two reality shows?

The main difference definitely is the craft. As a judge I would say the common factor is that you ought to have a connect with the contestants. If the connect is not there it becomes really difficult to be able to judge and tell them how to go about their performances etc.

Your way of giving feedback is very kind and polite. Is that a conscious effort?

Yes, I think if I have to tell my own kid something or my sister’s children, I would do the same. I deal with the contestants just as how I would with my kids. Even if a stern scolding is needed, I would do it but that too with a sprinkle of love. I can be very strict actually, but I try not to be.

Reportedly, this time the judges are looking for more of dancing and less of stunts. Your comment.

I think if you have been given two minutes to show us your best moves and all you do is lifts and stunts, then that is not right. But in those two minutes if you can show us your best dancing skills mixed with a bit of stunts and lifts, then why not? That’s totally fine. But of course, dance has to be the main ingredient. Having said that, I want entertainment, I want to see something different and new.

You have a liking for classical dance...

I used to learn classical dance when I was younger. I didn’t complete the training though. So, I really look forward to seeing some classical dance performances on our show, because I feel the younger generations are forgetting about these dance forms. Everybody is into hip hop, break dancing etc. these days, and one feels that classical dance is a little behind.

How do you balance your personal and professional life?

I think my drive is what keeps me going! I always want to do new things, add a feather to my cap. I can never be happy by being idle or doing the same things. I wish to enjoy life to the fullest and take all that it has to offer with open arms.

How important is it for you to stay independent?

I believe independence is the core of my being! Moreover, in my line of work, I am very happy and fortunate to meet people who give me the right backing, the right push to do something.

Earlier women were not taken seriously in business. Do you think that is changing now?

Of course! Now there are so many proficient businesswomen and doing stellar work! In any sector—be it fashion, e-commerce, entertainment, wellness—there are so many women entrepreneurs who are excelling in what they do and are paving the path for other women.

You have an 18-year-old son. What is that one thing that your son helps you with?

Definitely how to use the internet! Because I am not at all tech savvy, so my son is my go-to person to learn about all things tech.
