Khatija Iqbal started her career with ALTBalaji’s Ragini MMS: Returns. She talks about her career so far, her inspiration & more

What challenges did you face when you started your career?

There were a lot of ups and downs, but I won’t call it a struggle anymore. I would say it was like a school teaching me how to become better each day and that’s all I strive for. So there was struggle, but in a great way.

What has been your favourite role so far and why?

My favourite role has been that of Sonia Sehgal in Ragini MMS: Returns. It was more like myself —bossy, cute and funny.

Tell us about your upcoming project…

My next show is Inside Edge – 3. It has a great cast and an excellent team. I play a cameo in the show. My role is of a mysterious woman who enters a building and hacks into the system to make a betting deal come through. She looks like a spy — very professional and sharp.

Who is your inspiration in Bollywood?

Actors like Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Manoj Bajpayee, Tabu and Konkona Sen Sharma inspire me.

Do you think the web series concept took time to grow on the Indian masses?

I think it was introduced a bit late and it’s like wild fire now!

Which platform do you prefer more — TV, films or OTT?

OTT.

Do you think negative or grey characters give an actor more opportunity to explore?

Yes! I like grey characters. I feel they really connect with the audience; moreover, you can show a lot of variation in your emotions.

What kind of roles would you like to do?

I would like to do action roles like that of a cop and roles that are similar to my real self.
