Four persons allegedly involved in selling off a 17-year-girl to a 40-year-old man from Rohtak have been arrested. One of the accused is the minor girl’s mother.

The other accused are Vikarm, Ramfal and Kitab Singh, all residents of Rohtak’s Dhamad village. All accused were produced in a local court on Tuesday.

“The girl’s mother, Ramfal and Kitab Singh were sent to judicial custody, while Vikram was remanded in police remand,” said Sukhbir Singh, SHO, City police station.

As per the FIR registered at the City police station on September 19, the Child Line, Rohtak, informed the Child Welfare Committee (CWC), Rohtak, on September 8 that a minor girl of Yamunanagar was sold off and taken to Dhamad village.

Subsequently, a joint team of the Child Line and police rescued the girl. At present, she is putting up at a shelter home here.

On September 7, Vikram, along with two members of his family, visited the girl’s home here. They gave Rs 56,000 to the girl’s mother and brought her to Dhamad village, where Vikram married her in a temple.

A case was registered against the accused under Sections 370 and 366-A of the IPC, and Sections 9, 10 and 12 of the Child Marriage Prohibition Act on September 21.
