Karnal: An inter-district science exhibition was organised at Government College, Sector-14, which was inaugurated by Shammi Bansal, Pankaj Goel, Managing Director, Liberty Shoes Ltd, Karnal, and Dr CR Drolia, Professor of Psychology, KU, Kurukshetra. As many as 50 teams from 11 colleges of Karnal and Panipat participated in the exhibition. The models were prepared in seven subjects - Physics, Chemistry, Botany, Zoology, Geography, Computer Science and Psychology. The chief guests planted saplings on the college campus and praised the tradition of plantation on such occasion. They appreciated the efforts of the students as well as the teachers. Dr Drolia said, "In order to enhance scientific temper among students, teachers should motivate students". Dr Rekha Sharma, principal and district higher education officer, said, "The main purpose of the exhibition is to save the earth and environment". Dr Satish Gupta, convener of the exhibition, said the object of the exhibition was to motivate students and to create interest among them because scientific temper was the backbone of development of any nation.

DAV college holds convocation

Yamunanagar: DAV College for Girls, Yamunanagar, held its 56th convocation. The chief guest of the programme was Education Minister Kanwar Pal. Principal of the college Dr Vibha Gupta said 772 students were given degrees. Kanwar Pal congratulated the degree holders and inspired them to pursue their dreams without getting deterred by failures. He added that degrees from such an esteemed institution would help them throughout their life in achieving great heights. He encouraged the girls to actively participate in nation building and conservation of environment with the zeal. "DAV College is the best women college of Haryana as is ranked 1st by Kurukshetra university," said Dr Vibha Gupta.

Teachers discuss Class X marking

Karnal: Under the aegis of the Hubs of Learning, English and Science workshops were conducted by Pratap Public School, Sector-6, Karnal in which newly appointed faculties of four schools -Universal Academy, Kalheri, Aadarsh Public School, Garhi Birbal, War Heroes Memorial School, Basdhara and the Pratap Public School, Sector-6, discussed the latest marking scheme of Class X board examination. Facilitator of English workshop Renu from Universal Academy, Kalheri, explained the formats of all contents of writing section and techniques to improve skills of students. Key focus of facilitator of Science workshop Ashwani and Shashi from the host school was on various strategies to equip teachers with the ability to deal with some difficult topics effectively and preparation of project.

Seminar on nutrition and obesity

Rohtak: The Youth Red Cross Department of Maharshi Dayanand University (MDU) organsied a seminar on 'nutrition and obesity' during its health awareness training camp. Master trainer sports nutritionist and dietician Nikita Garg said obesity was an excessive fat accumulation in the body that presents body with serious health hazards. She also suggested precautions/tips to those present at the seminar to keep themselves away from obesity.

CUH launches ‘Swachhta Pakhwada’

Mahendragarh: Central University of Haryana (CUH) here has launched 'Swachhta Pakhwada', a fortnightly cleanness drive, on the campus in order to bring a two-week intense focus on the issues and practice of cleanliness. Vice-Chancellor Prof RC Kuhad administered the pledge to students, teaching and non-teaching employees of the university on the occasion. He maintained that different kinds of activities would be organised during the next two weeks to educate stakeholders for cleanliness.

‘Say no to drugs’ campaign

Rohtak: Prof Rajbir Singh, Vice-Chancellor of Maharshi Dayanand University (MDU), said the message of shunning alcoholism and stopping drug abuse must percolate to youth of society. Youth Red Cross (YRC) volunteers must take a lead in this say no to drugs and alcoholism campaign. While inaugurating health awareness programme of YRC, he said that YRC volunteers must take the message of positive health far and wide and facilitate creating of healthy society. He said the real purpose of education was to ensure holistic development of students who contributed their mite for social causes. He congratulated MDU YRC for their performance in various social outreach activities. MDU Registrar Prof Gulshan Lal Taneja in his address said caring for sick and suffering people was a noble act.
