More than three weeks after the Department of Medical Education and Research sent the letter of intent to the district authorities for issuing it to the land owners, the process to buy the proposed land in Majra village here for the prestigious AIIMS project is yet to be initiated.
Plan to show black flags to minister
The panchayat resolved to serve a two-week ultimatum on the state government to initiate the land-buying process. Otherwise, the samiti representatives will show black flags to Cooperative Minister Dr Banwari Lal at his residence in Bawal town on July 10.
It forced the AIIMS Sangharsh Samiti to organise a panchayat in Kund town here on Sunday to decide the further course of action for mounting pressure on the district administration to expedite the process.
The panchayat, presided over by Sheotaj Singh, chief of the samiti, resolved to serve a two-week ultimatum on the state government to initiate the land-buying process, otherwise the samiti representatives would show black flags to Cooperative Minister Dr Banwari Lal at his residence in Bawal town on July 10.
“The state government had, three weeks ago, approved the map depicting the proposed land, measuring 210 acres, and had also sent the letter of intent to the district authorities for initiating the process of purchasing the land for the project, but nothing has so far been done in this respect, causing resentment among people of entire Ahirwal. The delay has indicated that it’s a deliberate attempt to prolong the project till the next Assembly elections so as to get political mileage,” said Rajender Nimoth, spokesman of the samiti, adding that the delay had forced them to issue an ultimatum to the government.
Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar had announced the project in Bawal town in 2015, but it did not materialise since it pertained to the Centre. It forced the AIIMS Sangharsh Samiti to stage a dharna for 127 days to pressurise the government for its execution. Later, in 2019 just before the Lok Sabha elections, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced to set up AIIMS here.
The state government had also announced to buy private land at Rs 40 lakh per acre and residents of Majra village had, several months ago, offered and uploaded a record of the proposed land on the government portal for selling it as per the government’s condition.
Ashok Garg, Deputy Commissioner, said the process to complete the paper formalities regarding the AIIMS project was on. “The government is serious towards the execution of the project, hence the buying of the proposed land will be started by the end of this week,” he claimed.
