Registration of around 43,000 acres on the Meri Fasal, Mera Byora (MFMB) portal for selling paddy has come under the scanner in Karnal and Kaithal districts. Of these registrations, 19,760 acres have been registered in the name of 2,235 farmers in Karnal district and 23,645 acres in the name of 2,103 farmers in Kaithal district.

Sources claimed that around 5.8 lakh acres were under scrutiny across the state and verification of farmers was being done.

The authorities suspect that some of them had registered basmati variety in the name of parmal varieties or registered paddy on non-cultivable land or on land where other crops had already been cultivated.

The authorities also suspected the involvement of arhtiyas and millers in registration in the name of farmers by using their IDs.

“Preliminary investigation indicates misuse of the portal in the name of farmers for bogus procurement,” said an official involved in the verification, adding that mobile numbers used for the registration were being checked.

Recently, cases had been detected in Karnal district, in which paddy was shown cultivated on real estate land and on land where sugarcane had already been cultivated.

Last year, a case of misuse of the portal came to light in the Assandh grain market, in which two inspectors of the Food Civil Supplies and Consumers Affairs Department were arrested. They had made bogus procurement by using the names of farmers and delivered paddy to millers.

The accused had used the numbers of different vehicles, including e-rickshaws and two-wheelers.

Karnal DC Anish Yadav stated that only real farmers would get portal benefits.

Kaithal DC Prashant Panwar said they had found 970 fake registrations on the portal.
