Student shot dead, another injured in Rohtak clash

A 20-year-old student was shot dead, while another was injured in a clash between two groups of students at Double Park in the Model Town area of the town on Thursday. Some other students also received injuries in the clash, which is being attributed to some old enmity.

Superintendent of Police Jashandeep Singh Randhawa said as per the preliminary investigation, a quarrel had taken place between some students over a trivial matter, which led to the clash.

The deceased has been identified as Lokesh Dalal of Asauda village in Jhajjar district, but had been staying at Singhpura Kalan in Rohtak district for a long time. He was pursuing BA through distance education.

The injured student has been identified as Rakesh of Chiri village in Rohtak district. He is a student of BA-I at the local Jat College. As per the police, Lokesh and Rakesh belonged to rival groups. The police registered a case on the basis of a complaint lodged by Lokesh’s elder brother Amit.

As per police sources and eyewitnesses, a clash broke out between two groups of students around noon. Members of both the groups were reportedly armed with lathis, sharp-edged weapons and pistols.

Lokesh got shot in the abdomen and was rushed to the PGIMS, where he was declared dead by the doctors. Rakesh, who received a gunshot injury in his leg, has been admitted to the PGIMS Trauma Centre for treatment.

The police investigators maintained that the members of both the groups had an altercation at a tea stall on a local university campus nearly two months ago, which snowballed into a major quarrel.

Model Town police post in charge Devender Kumar said the statements of the injured student had been recorded and the statements of the family members of the deceased were also being recorded.
