In the current financial year, one lakh more people in Himachal will get social security pension, said Minister for Social Justice Sarveen Chaudhary while addressing a district-level statehood function in Dharamsala today.

She said that during four years of the present BJP government, 2.21 lakh people had been given social security pension. In 2017, when the BJP came to power, the budget for social security pension in the state was Rs 436 crore. It had now increased to Rs 1,300 crore. The number of people being given social security pension had increased in the state after the government reduced the age for beneficiaries from 80 years to 60 years, she added.

The minister said that for people, who did not get the benefit of free LPG cylinders under the Ujjwala scheme of the Centre, the state government had started the Grahini Suvidha Yojana. As many as 1.37 lakh families had been given free LPG cylinders under the state scheme. This year, all beneficiary families under the scheme would be given one more free LPG cylinder, she added.

Sarveen said that under the Chief Minister Shagun Yojana, a financial grant of Rs 31,000 was being given to BPL families for the marriage of their daughters. She added that Himachal was progressing at a fast pace and was now a role model for other hill states. Kangra DC Nipun Jindal, SP Khushal Sharma and Mayor of the Dharamsala Municipal Corporation Onkar Nehria were present on the occasion.
