Two persons were killed on the spot while seven others sustained injuries when the vehicle they were travelling in fell 200 metres down the road in Shimla district on Sunday.

The vehicle carrying orchestra was going for a wedding at Dhami when the tragedy struck around 6:30 this morning near Swankyar on Basantpur-Gumma road.

A police team from Mashobra rushed to the spot and fire and ambulance services were also called from Sunni to assist the rescue work. All nine occupants were stuck in the vehicle.

The deceased were identified as Chaman (34), a resident of Kandi village in Theog subdivision of Shimla district and Tilak (48), a resident of Par log village in Karsog subdivision of Mandi district.

The injured were rushed to Community Health Centre at Sunni and are under treatment.

Preliminary investigations suggested that rash and negligent driving led to the accident and a case has been registered and investigations are underway, said ASP Shimla Praveer Thakur.
