The two-day Himachal Pradesh University Hockey (Women) Championship began at Paddal Ground here today.
Dr CL Chandan, Vice-Chancellor, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Cluster University, Mandi, was the chief guest and professor Anil Thakur (retd) was the guest of honour.
The VC highlighted the need to increase the number of faculty members in physical education. He said more involvement of students in sports would not only mean better physical health but also mental well-being which would curb the problem like drug abuse.
Dr Chaman Premi, assistant professor and media convener said nine teams were participating in the two-day tournament.
