Srinagar, January 16
Authorities in Kulgam district on Tuesday attached an immovable property belonging to an alleged drug peddler, officials said. This is the second such action in as many days.
Barkatullah Mir’s under-construction house in Buchroo area of Kulgam was attached under the NDPS Act, they said. “During the investigation conducted by the police, it was found that the property was identified as illegally acquired,” a police spokesman said.
“The property was prima facie acquired from illicit trafficking of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances by the owner,” the police said. The official said the owner cannot sell/lease or transfer the property.
On Monday, police had attached a property measuring 625 square feet belonging to alleged drug peddler Mashooq Ahmad Sheikh, a resident of Khudwani Qaimoh, Kulgam.
“Local people of the area have hailed the police initiative of attachment of immovable properties, which have been raised from illicit trafficking of narcotics by the drug peddlers,” the police claimed.
