Former Senior Superintendent of Police, (Jalandhar Rural), Gurpreet Singh Bhullar, assumed the charge of the Commissioner of Police (CP) here today. It’s his second chance after 14 years when he has been assigned the command of the district police.

He said he was overwhelmed to assume the duty in Jalandhar, adding that the city was his preferable place and he wants to make it crime-free.

He said his foremost approach would be on the prevention and detection of crime. The city would be put under surveillance to restrict crime. Top priority would also be given to solve untraced cases and making the public dealing easier. CCTV cameras, which were not functioning at various locations, would be reviewed.

Bhullar said: “The tasks which will be undertaken initially included solving the untraced cases such as Maqsudan bomb blast, murder of the mother of an Assistant Inspector General of Police and a looting incident in which employees of liquor traders were targeted.”

“Adequate focus will be laid on good, responsive and transparent policing. The Police Control Room (PCR), will be made responsive to deal with any sort of urgency,” he added.

The Commissioner of Police said new initiatives would be taken to ensure the well-being of the police and their families, adding that thrust would be laid on ensuring the security of senior citizens.
