Jalandhar, July 18
The Commissioner of Jalandhar Division, B Purushartha, today visited the flood-prone areas of the Shahkot subdivision to review the flood control arrangements along with the banks of Sutlej river.
He was accompanied by Sub-Divisional Magistrate Dr Charumita and other officers.
The Divisional Commissioner accorded necessary directions to the officials concerned regarding the arrangements to be made for tackling any sort of emergency situation.
Purushartha said the district administration was vigilant to tackle any emergency situation in the flood-prone areas of the district.
He asked the officials to make necessary arrangements in terms of sand refill bags and hiring heavy machinery, if required, to deal with any sort of alarming situation, adding that the district administration had already made all necessary arrangements for flood control in the district to facilitate people in any crisis.
The Divisional Commissioner said: “The contingent plan has been prepared by the department and they are fully equipped to tackle any sort of situation.”
“The evacuation plan, in case of flood, has already been finalised and sensitive places have been identified along with safe places, where residents of flood-prone areas will be shifted, if required,” added Purushartha.
