Pankaj wins EPF Dept badminton tournament



Jalandhar, February 22

The Jalandhar regional office, of the EPF Department, Ministry of Labour and Employment, GoI, today conducted a badminton tournament under the Khelo India indoor games. In the quarter-final match, Assistant Commissioner Harinder Singh defeated Sachin (21-2) and (21-5). Pankaj Sarpal defeated Uma Shankar (21-7) and (21-2). Jatinder defeated Harjinder Shuglani (21-6) and (21-11) and Mahinder Rajwad secured a bye from Vikramaditya to enter the semi-final.

The first match of the semi-final was played between Pankaj Sarpal and Mahinder Rajwad, in which an agile performance was given by Pankaj. He defeated Mahinder (21-5) and (21-2) to secure his place in the final and in the second match, Jatinder defeated Harinder (21-3) and (21-11) after a tough fight to enter the final.

In the final, there was a fierce fight between Pankaj and Jatinder. Both players played well, which was enjoyed by spectators. On Pankaj’s thrilling smash, the audience gave him a round of applause. Pankaj, playing judiciously, defeated Jatinder (21-13) and (21-18) and won the title of badminton champion.

Regional Commissioner Shobhit Singhal said: “Under Khelo India, there had been tremendous enthusiasm among players in today’s badminton competition and we hope to see the best performance of all players in the coming days.”— TNS
