PM Modi announces compensation for victims of bus accident

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday announced compensation of Rs 2 lakh for the next of kin of the Amarnath pilgrims killed in a bus accident in Jammu and Kashmir and Rs 50,000 for those seriously injured.

New Delhi, July 16

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday announced compensation of Rs 2 lakh for the next of kin of the Amarnath pilgrims killed in a bus accident in Jammu and Kashmir and Rs 50,000 for those seriously injured.

“PM announced ex gratia of Rs. 2 lakhs for next of kin of those killed & Rs. 50,000 for those seriously injured, in the bus accident in J&K (sic)," the Prime Minister's Office tweeted.

A bus carrying Amarnath pilgrims skidded off the Jammu-Srinagar national highway and fell into a deep nullah in Ramban district.

Meanwhile, the Jammu and Kashmir State Road Transport Corporation (JKSRTC) has ordered an in-house inquiry into the road accident.

“An in-house inquiry committee has been constituted to look into the circumstances that led to this tragic accident involving an SRTC bus carrying the Amarnath yatris," its Managing Director Mir Afroz Ahmad said here.

He said the committee has been asked to submit its report within two days. — PTI
