Ludhiana, January 16

Workers of a wine contractor, AB Wines, were attacked and looted by nine armed persons in Koom Kalan yesterday. The police have identified the two of the assailants as Harjit Singh of Koom Kalan and Pawandeep Singh of Bilga.

Japinder Singh, a complainant in the case, said he was in charge of a liquor vend at Koom Kalan. On Wednesday afternoon, he was carrying Rs 50,000 collected on account of sale of liquor and Rs 40,000 to be distributed among workers as salary. His worker, Satinder, had Rs 20,000.

Both were going to Bheromuna in an SUV. When they reached near the school, Harjit and Pawandeep, along with their accomplices, cornered them. The assailants, who were in two cars, first beat them up and then snatched whatever cash both had. The assailants also snatched their mobile phones.

They kidnapped Satinder and also took away the SUV. He was later dropped near Dehlon.

The complainant alleged he had repeatedly warned Harjit against supplying illicit liquor in the area and that might be the reason for the attack.

A case under sections of assault, kidnapping and snatching has been registered against the suspects.

The investigating officer, ASI Randhir Singh, said raids were on to trace the assailants.
